John Pettus, 74, of Green passed away October 20, 2019. He was born April 10, 1945 in Akron to the late John and Bessie Pettus. John was a machinist at Goodyear Tire and Rubber’s Tech Center and retired after 36 years. He was an exceptionally intelligent and mechanically inclined man. He was quick witted, funny, and caring to anyone in need. John was an avid fisherman and trap shooter. He was an Olympic alternate on the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team in the early 70’s.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph and Geneva. He is survived by his loving wife, of 53 years, Laura; children, Theresa (Robert) Holt and Jason Pettus; granddaughter, Alyssa; sisters, Deidri Pettus and Phyllis Hunsicker; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held at NOON on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Bill White officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. and for one hour on Wednesday, before the service, at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at East Liberty Cemetery at a later date.
