John R. Bixler

John Bixler, 72, passed away November 18, 2018.  He was born in Akron on November 30, 1945 to the late John Byron and Alice Bixler.

John grew up in Firestone Park and graduated from the University of Akron with a masters in chemical engineering. He was employed by Goodyear 42 years. He spent the last 12 years with Goodyear in Beaumont, TX until his retirement in 2008, then returning to Akron. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, tinkering with his Firebird, visiting national parks and traveling internationally. He was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Indians.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Bixler.  He is survived by his wife, Christine Bixler; daughters, Michelle Bixler and Jennifer (Andrew) Fisher; and grandchildren, Brody Bixler, Sydney, and Samantha Fisher; as well as many other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR 619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Rev. Michael Nichols officiating.  Family and friends may call on Saturday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
