Joanne M. (Phares) Gay

Joanne Gay, 93, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2018. She was born June 12, 1925 in Akron to Cletus and Salomae Phares. Joanne graduated from Garfield High School and Kent State University.  She married Clarence Gay, June 10, 1948 after meeting at The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company where they both had rewarding careers. Joanne’s happy place was on a beach at the water’s edge, playing / watching tennis and winning at Gin Rummy. Joanne remarried in 2000 to Gordon Larson.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, of 41 years, Clarence; son-in-Law, Roger Burton and second husband Gordon.  She is survived by her beloved daughters, Pamela Burton, Patricia (Bob) Helbling and Paula (Mike) Gay-Haddad, 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many friends.  

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise of Cuyahoga Falls and Harbor Light Hospice for the love and care given to their mother. 

A private family inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her parents and the father of her daughters.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne’s name to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
