Janice "Jan" F. (Birkholz) Thompson

Jan Thompson, 75, passed away August 10, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer.  She was born May 12, 1943 in Appleton, Wisconsin to the late Roman and Gladys Birkholz.  Jan brought joy to so many people in her life. She naturally made every occasion special, from a children’s birthday to a once-in-a-lifetime journey. She made everyone welcome. She actively enjoyed life, travelling to Europe and across America with her husband, Bill. Jan’s energy, charisma, faith and love enriched the lives of family, friends, neighbors and co-workers at AAA.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brother and sister, Laverne and Donna. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Thompson, Sr.; children, Paul (Barbara) and Kelly Sutliff (Steve); step-children, Bill, Jr. (Pam) Thompson, Debi (Gerald) Glinsek; grandchildren; Lydia, Cidney, and Sophia; step-grandchildren, Michelle, Aaron (Stephanie), Stephanie (Mike), Allison, Elizabeth, Michael (Katie), and Matthew (Nicole); nieces, Lynn Lanser, Allison and Nicole; as well as many great grandchildren, other family and friends, especially Gail Lee and Gerry Bartlebaugh.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the Summa Hospice nurses and staff for the loving care they gave to Jan and her family.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Mike Castelli officiating.  Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made in Jan’s name to the Glioblastoma Foundation, PO Box 62066, Durham, NC 27715.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
