Irene Minser Obituary

Irene M. (Weiand) Minser, 63, of Akron, Ohio (formerly Armagh, PA) passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 after a brief illness. The youngest of seven, she was born on December 23, 1955 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Glenn M. and Helen I. (Petrovich) Weiand.

A 1974 graduate of Green High School, Irene also received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in History from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2004. Irene was passionate about advocacy, and in her life, she spent many years advocating for adults and children with developmental disabilities. She loved camping, traveling, the outdoors, writing, literature (especially British lit), and fishing. She also loved spending time with her family, who meant everything to her. Irene believed that family is life, and her time was best spent in the company of her children, her siblings, and her nieces and nephews. The gentlest of souls, she was a friend to many and was always the champion of the underdog.

Along with her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her sisters Barbara J. Brenneman and Kathleen E. Memmer; her brother, Michael G. Weiand; her brother-in-law, Frank G. Andrews; and her son, Neil A. Minser. She is survived by her daughter, Dana K. Minser (Herman Helm) of Armagh, PA; son, Jacob M. Minser of Orchardville, PA; sisters, Helen (Charles) McGuinness of Cape Elizabeth, ME; Audrey Weiand of South Portland, ME; Christine (Paul) Rudd of Machias, ME; her sister-in-law, Diane Weiand of Gold Canyon, Arizona; brothers-in-law Paul Memmer of Hardin, KY and Kim Brenneman of Akron, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, for whom her love knew no end; and her beloved granddogs, Rufus and Nikko.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Canal Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center; Equitas Health; and Bella Care Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and excellence of care.

A memorial mass will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 with Fr. David Durkee officiating.
