Gene Easterday, 88, passed away July 21, 2018. He was born April 5, 1930 in Doylestown to the late Adam and Edith Easterday. He was a lifelong resident of the Akron area and retired from Hercules Engines in Canton. Gene loved to feed his “critters” in his backyard. No matter the weather he fed the birds, squirrels, raccoons, possums, and even an occasional skunk! No animal ever went away unfed, leading to several stray cats finding a permanent home with him. Dad also read every inch of the newspaper daily. Loved ones often received a pile of special articles that he had cut out just for them.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Marily, and daughter, Laura. He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Chuck) Lancaster; grandchildren, Jerrad Lancaster and Tara and Joel Green; and great-grandchildren, Devon and Donovan Green. He also leaves special friends, Carol and Lyle Keyser.
Per Gene’s request, there will be no services. Instead, in his memory, please help take care of his critters. May it bring you the joy it gave him. To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
