Donald W. Gilliam

Don Gilliam, 77, passed away November 13, 2017.  He was born September 7, 1940 in Burlington, North Carolina to the late James Woodrow and Una Gilliam. Don graduated from Cobb Memorial High School in Caswell County, North Carolina and attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.  Don moved to Akron in 1976 with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company where he retired after 35 years of service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many special golf trips with friends over the years. 

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Gilliam.  He is survived by son, Jeffrey (Kristi) Gilliam; daughter, Amy (Rick) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Adam (Megan) and Sara Nations, Caroline and Grace Gilliam; brothers, Ronald (Marie), Larry (Nancy) and Neal (Laura) Gilliam; as well as many other loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Stacie Friend and Mary Beth Day for their loving care and kindness shown to Don.       

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 1705 Shady Grove Road, Providence, NC 27315.
