David Owen Evans

Dave Evans, 85, of Akron went to be with the Lord August 29, 2017 at his Portage Lakes home, surrounded by family.  Dave was born July 20, 1932 in Akron to the late Albert and Vera Evans.  He was a 1952 graduate of Hower Vocational High School.  Following graduation, Dave served four years in the United States Air Force and four years in the Air Force Reserves.  He was extremely proud of serving his country and loved to tell stories about his time spent there, as well as the brave men he met while serving.  Dave also had many friends at Ohio Bell, where he retired in 1986, with over 30 years of service.

Dave had many blessings in his life, including his close family, many friends, and his strong Christian faith. He was also an avid boater and loved being on the lake.  He shared his passions with those lucky enough to be close to him and had a love for life and laughter that could light up any room.

Besides his parents, Dave was preceded in death by siblings, Mildred (Earl) Geiger, Eleanore (George) Twickler, and Al (Betty) Evans.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kay Evans; children, Kathy (Michael) Menyes and Glenn (Mary) Evans; grandchildren, Kristen (Andrew) Gucciardo, Steven Menyes, Sean (Sarah) Evans, and Joshua (Megann) Evans.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Steve Bucy officiating.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Manchester Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s name to Summa Health Foundation, Summa Hospice, PO Box 2090, Akron, Ohio 44398-6153.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
