Bernice May (Bradbury) Osburn

Bernice Osburn, 91, passed away January 29, 2018 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She was born May 12, 1926 in Pleasant Hill, TN to the late Hunter and Gladys Bradbury and was the oldest of six children.  Bernice moved to Akron during WWII to work at Firestone Tire and later worked at Steere Enterprises.  While working at Firestone, Bernice met and married Russell Osburn and raised two loving sons.  After retirement, Bernice and Russell moved to Roanoke Rapids where she made many friends that affectionately called her Grandma.

Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; son, Garry Osburn, Sr.; and brothers, Charles and Samuel Bradbury.  She is survived by son, Raymond (Cathy) Osburn; daughter-in-law, Brenda Osburn; grandchildren; Dawn (Todd), Starr Osburn and Garry D. (Heather) Osburn, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mitchell, Garry D., III, Austin and Brandi; sisters, Betty Kemmer, Doris (Carson) Pharris and Harriet Coe; as well as many other loving family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made in Bernice’s name to Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, 201 Washington St., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
