Jane L. (Berentz) Buchanan

Jane Buchanan, 81, passed away on March 21, 2024.  She was born in Akron on June 23, 1942, to the late Wilbur and Dorothy Berentz.  Jane was a 1960 graduate of Garfield High School and graduated from The University of Akron with a master’s degree in English/History and taught English at the University of Akron for several years before becoming a mother and homemaker. 

Jane was an avid reader with a library of books to show.  Jane was active in PTA for Arrowhead Elementary, Copley Middle School, and Copley High School.  She helped with the Copley High Band while both children were in the band.  She was a long-time member of the Firestone Park Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Optimist Club of Akron.  Jane loved taking care of her children and grandchildren and taking them to Disney World more than anything.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Rick Buchanan; son, Darrin (Carrie) Buchanan; daughter, Deidre Buchanan; grandchildren, Camryn and Dylanne (Andrew McElhose) Buchanan; and many friends.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff of the Gables of Canton and Traditions Hospice for the love and care they gave to Jane.  

A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made in Jane’s name to the Haven of Rest Ministries, P.
