Frank Weaver, 82, passed away on April 9, 2024. He was born in York, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1941, to the late Frank, Sr. and Dorothy Weaver.
Frank started the Portage Lakes boat parade back in 1976. It has since grown to include antique boat shows, sandcastle building, light-up the lakes parade, and our beloved fireworks! He had many hobbies over the years including coin collecting, genealogy, boating, woodworking, and cheering for his beloved Cleveland Indians.
Other than his family, Frank loved little more than to give back to his community whether it was in holiday celebrations, writing “Outtakes Around the Lakes” for the local paper for 25 years, being on committees to better the Portage Lakes, or researching local knowledge to preserve historical stories. In addition to being a community man, Frank enjoyed theater and was in over 80 plays around Summit, Stark, and Medina counties.
Frank worked as a freelance photographer off and on for most of his adult life. He also worked for Goodyear for many years in payroll taxes, but his love of the arts called him back after leaving Goodyear due to his health. He spent many years painting and writing. One of his proudest accomplishments was publishing one of his books, CrabCake and Pepper.
Later in life, Frank worked so hard to earn his Paralegal degree with honors and even overcame the obstacle of being deaf while attending college virtually in the 90’s. However, no accomplishment was greater to him than his family and he poured into his kids and grandkids with passion. He always had a fun creative story to tell with a twinkle in his eyes. And if you have ever received one of his beloved nicknames, you are a lucky one!
Frank’s faith was private most of his life, but his many years of religious studies made it from his head to his heart at the end of his life and he was found several times reading his bible in his last months of life.
Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Bock, and brothers, Mike and Tom. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 ½ years, Peggy (Jolly) Weaver; daughter, Wendy (Bobby “So-So”) Wilson; grandchildren, Morgan and Mitchell Bock, Nina (Jimmy) LaBello, AnnaMay, Ella and Mia Wilson; great-grandson, Jimmy; sisters, Eva Mae, Shirley, Pat, Theresa, and Jeanne; brothers, Kenny, Denny, and Johnny; as well as many other, family including Frankie, Melissa, Angie and Tina and countless friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. at the funeral home. The interment will take place at Manchester Cemetery.
