David May, 84, passed away on March 12, 2024. He was born on March 6, 1940, in Akron to the late Walter and Hilda May. David was a 1958 graduate of Garfield High School and he earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees in secondary education at the University of Akron. David proudly served his country as an officer in the U.S. Army.
David was a retired social studies teacher from the Akron Public Schools where he spent his final career years at Ellet High School. After retirement, he worked part-time as a starter at Turkeyfoot Golf Course. David loved golf and was an avid amateur radio operator with the “ham” call of W8DRM (formerly WD8QMA)
David is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Faye (Seese); children, Diane Provchy, Rick (Dena), and Matthew May; Faye’s children, Jenny (Matt) McMillin, Chrisy (Troy) Wright, and Jimmy (Stephanie) Bowen; grandchildren, Ashley, Bobby (Kayla), Joey (Kayla), Jimmy (Chara), Melissa (Nate), Jon (Julia), Jennifer, Kevin, Marshall (Lauren), Miles (Grace), and Mason; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Pleskach; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at NOON on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Hope Lutheran Church, 999 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319, or for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The interment will take place following the service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in David’s name to Hope Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
