Virginia E. (Everly) Stewart

Virginia E. Stewart (Starn, Thurn), of Akron, Ohio passed away July 11, 2017. Virginia was born on March 14, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Tom and Grace Everly.

Virginia attended Southwest High School and the University of Missouri where she studied chemical engineering.  After moving to Akron and raising five children, Virginia went to work at Bee's Dress Shop and Kiddie Bazaar. She then earned a degree in accounting from the University of Akron and worked at Ohio Tuxedo Rental until her retirement.  Virginia enjoyed playing golf and bridge, visiting with her many friends, and going to Curves. She also enjoyed volunteering at Summa in Green, and the gift shops at St. Thomas Hospital and Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Harry Stewart, and his three children, Gregory, Rebecca and Jeffry. She is also survived by her children, Thomas (Mary) Thurn, Linda Thurn (Vic Byers), Nancy (Thomas) McDowell, Walt Thurn (Linda Knapp), and Lisa (James) McClellan; grandchildren, Wally and Tyler Thurn, Emily (Christopher) Kovalchick, Ruth and Kettie McDowell, Connor and Ethan McClellan; and one great-grandson, Oliver Kovalchick.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Pastor Jeff Croft officiating.  Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to The Salvation Army, 2507 East 22nd St., Cleveland, Ohio 44115, or to a charity of your choice.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
