Steve Kowalyk, 89, passed away September 3, 2017. He was born August 2, 1928 in Akron to the late John and Stella Kowalyk. Steve proudly served during WWII in the U.S. Navy, and was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2002, worked for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years, was a 32° Mason and member of the Star Lodge. He was also a lifetime member of Army-Navy Garrison Lodge 102 and VFW Lodge 3883. Most of all, Steve was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Steve was preceded in death by his first wife, B.J.; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Anita; step-children, Brian (Billinda) Cromley and Ami Younkin; step grandchildren, Taylor, Lauren, Kyanna, Shane, Kaila, Zach and Alex; Goddaughter, Connie Gregory; sister, Sonia (Ted) Woitovich; as well as many nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Kellie, Janet, Becky, and the entire staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.
Funeral service will be held at 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Chaplain Tom Heil officiating. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 300 N.
