Peggy Anne (Hogue) Spencer

Peggy Spencer, 79, passed away on January 5, 2018. She was born July 30, 1938 in Akron to the late Carl and Katherine Hogue. Peggy grew up in Akron, lived in Green for 23 years, Ocean Isle, NC for 23 years before returning to Green 2 years ago.  On July 30, 1953 she married Walter Spencer, Sr. in Moundsville, WV and spent 64 wonderful years with him raising their 6 sons.  Peggy was an active member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, Ocean Isle Beach, NC where she served as an organist.  She worked as LPN at Akron General, Visiting Nurse and Autumn Care in NC.   

Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Walter Jr., brother, Jim Hogue and grandchildren, Melanie Mcaleese and Melissa Poling.  She is survived by her husband, Walter, Sr.; sons, Jim (Larissa), Wayne (Pam), John (Kim), Jeff (Gretchen) and Tim (Nancy) Spencer; grandchildren, Peggy Sue (James) Paugh, Amanda Spencer, Matt (Marilyn) Spencer, Vicki (Nicholas) Hugh, Jennifer Spencer, Madison Spencer, John (Ashley) Spencer, Angela Spencer, Meghan Spencer, Jesse (Courtney) Spencer, and Alex Spencer; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family and friends. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 P.M. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319.   Inurnment will be at East Liberty Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater East Ohio Area Chapter, 70 West Streetsboro Street, Suite 201, Hudson, Ohio 44236.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
