Marilyn R. (Patch) Scholes

Marilyn Scholes, 84, passed away December 25, 2017 after years of complicated physical problems.  She was born December 11, 1933 in Akron to the late Ephram and Iva Patch.  Marilyn was a 1951 graduate of Springfield High School, worked at many jobs; but her most fulfilling was as a home companion, for many years, to seniors who needed some TLC.  Marilyn was a member of Green Valley United Methodist Church.

Marilyn always enjoyed being at family gatherings where there was laughter and food! She had a positive outlook at everything in life.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her sister, Doris in 1961; brother, Ted in 2007 and son, Bill in 2009.  She is survived by her son, Myron Scholes; daughter, Diane Smock; sister, Myrtle Scott; caregiver, Madalyn Elsbree; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Manor Care of Barberton, especially Nurse Laura, for the love and care they gave to Marilyn over the last 10 years. Marilyn enjoyed living there, playing bingo whenever possible, singing with other residents, going on outings for ice cream or to a restaurant, and delivering the mail to the residents for some years. 

A funeral service will be held at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Chaplain Paul Hostetler officiating.  Family and friends may call on Tuesday for 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.  A private family interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to the Haven of Rest Ministries, PO Box 547, Akron, Ohio 44309-0547.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
