Lorena V. Skiles Miller (Meadows)

Lorena Miller, 95, passed away September 6, 2017.  She was born August 8, 1922 in Richwood, WV to her loving parents, the late Elzie and Grace Meadows.  Lorena and her siblings, Roy, Beulah and Helen experienced loss at an early age when their mother died in childbirth.  They then made their way to Akron and remained close throughout their lives.

Family was very important to Lorena and she supported everyone to the best of her ability.  She raised her four children, Jeri, David, Cheryl and Janean to be respectful and independent and with that independence came lessons to be learned. If you wouldn’t hold her hand, she would put a leash around your waist; if you drive a Soap Box Derby car off the roof of a barn, it won’t end well; you must never sift Crisco and if you put on eye shadow after you leave the house at the bus stop, she will find out.  Her nephew Kenny and niece Gloria were her children from another mother and she loved them dearly.  Her grandchildren, Jimmy, Joni, Jeff, Misty, Rashawn, John and Megan were the joys of her life.  Her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Devon, Brianna, Jason, Jessie Jo, Rhianna, Fayth and Hayden are her legacy of love.  Her great-great grandchildren, Zayne and Bryson, will only hear the stories of what a wonderful grandmother they had.  She developed a love of baseball from our Dad and spent many hours watching the Indians.  She enjoyed it when people said she looked much younger than her age and always put on her Clinique Think Bronze lipstick before going to bed.  She was a strong, funny and loving woman and we are all so lucky to have her DNA running through us.  We will miss you every day!

Funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 3:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.  Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made in Lorena’s name to the VNS Patient Care Fund at Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, c/o Akron General Foundation, 400 Wabash Avenue, Akron, OH 44307-2463.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
