Jack Zaher, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on October 24, 2017.  Jack was born February 25, 1935 in Akron to the late Joseph and Mary Zaher.  As a child he loved riding his bike down to the Akron blimp hangar, and participated in the Akron Soap Box Derby three times.  He proudly served in the Army 11th Airborne from 1954 to 1956.  After his service, he was employed with Firestone Tire & Rubber Company for 32 years. Jack loved his toys:  his remote-controlled airplanes, snowmobiles, and especially his Chris-Craft boats.  He loved Ohio State football games (Go Bucks!); time spent with his Firestone group golfing and especially all his retired buddies every Tuesday and Thursday.  One of the biggest joys in Jack’s life was traveling with his wife, Cheryl, and best friends, Hody and Bobbie.

Jack was a wonderful husband, great dad, super step-dad, and fantastic “gramps.”

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Cheryl; daughter, Tracy (Tim) Lee; son, Eric (Jude) Zaher; step-children, Chad (Desiree) Johnson, Lori (Brendan) Baker, and Jeremy Johnson; and seven beautiful grandchildren, Cooper, Samantha, Corey, Max, Carly, Elise and Tyler as well as many other family and friends.

Our special thanks to Yvonne, Beth, Neneita, Erica, and Pastor Tom with Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care, guidance, warmth and friendship they gave to Jack, Cheryl, and the rest of the family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 3 to 7 P.M. at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319.  Private services will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 300 N. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Ste. 103, Akron, Ohio 44333.  To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.
