John Leonard BickettJanuary 14, 1930 ~ April 1, 2017 (age 87)
John Bickett, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2017. A veteran of the Marine Corps, John was retired from both the Akron Police Department (1957 - 1982) and the Summit County Sheriff's Office (1982 -2009). John was an outgoing person who loved spending time and playing cards with his wife, children, and friends. His phrase "got a dollar" will outlive him for years. Always active in the FOP, John's name is still revered on the police department. John spent his life serving others. From the Marine Corps to years in public service, John believed his role was to protect and serve. He took that role so seriously that he did not ultimately retire until the age of 81 years.
John was preceded in death by son, John Philip. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (nee Glass); daughters, Adele (Scott) Webb, Debora (Ronald) Biro, Bonnie (Donald) Tri, Connie (Skip) Eckert, and Lana (Thomas) Powell; sons, Christopher (Erin) and Leonard (Desiree) Bickett; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.
