THE ROSE BEYOND THE WALL

Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God’s free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice’s length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope receive—
The rose still grows beyond the wall,

Scattering fragrance far and wide
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.

Grandma,

I remember when I was younger and my friends would complain when they would "have to go see" their grandmothers. I thought they were nuts! I was so happy to come spend summers with you. Some of my most fond memories were shopping with you and Grandma Ann. You were always so much fun, and were always honest with me even when it wasn't something I may have "wanted" to hear.

Our late nights watching old tv shows and movies while eating cheese or crab cakes (how many people randomly pull out crab cakes out of their fridge), drinking coffee or tea and laughing. Those are memories I'll take with me forever. You were not just a grandma, you were a best girl friend.

One of the memories I have that always makes me smile is when we (me you and Grandma Ann) were in Dillards and you told me to pick out an outfit, you wanted to buy me something. I was looking at jeans and sweaters and from the other side of the store you held up some slinky something or other and yelled "how about this Nickie....this is sexy". Ha!

I hope you got your strawberries and a fruit and nut egg up in Heaven.

I'll love you forever,
Your Granddaughter Nickie

Mom,
You taught us so well growing up and never stopped teaching us. You loved us all unconditionally and that is the love we should always show others. You corrected me with everything from soap to wooden spoons, but the most remembered is your love and words.

I can only hope that we can make you as proud of us in all that we do, as we are as proud of you.

You will always be in our hearts and minds, no one can ever be a better role model than you.

I'm sure you are with Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Jo, and Aunt Martha playing pinochle or pulling the slot levers and hitting ever jackpot you can. But in my opinion, you are the jackpot that we hit in having you as a friend, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

We will always love you with all of our hearts...

Love, Tony & Jean

Mom
To the best mother a kid could ask for. You were with me through the good and the bad, for every one of my 51 years. We spent holidays, weekends and finally every day together, you showing me unconditional love the whole time. I have never knew hurt as bad as losing you.

In the last year of your life you showed me what courage and strength really is, and with that, teaching your son to the very end. You took care of me growing up, I just hope I took ½ as good of care of you when you needed me.

I will forever remember saying I love you, and you saying back to me “more”. My life’s journey will forever be changed by losing you. You will be in my heart, soul and thoughts till my dying breath.

You once joked that you were the mother hen and we were your baby chicks, you passed away with all your baby chicks by your side comforting you until the end.

Your one wish was for you, me, Tony and Rose to go to Las Vegas one last time, unfortunately that never happened. My one and only wish is to be with you someday again.

Please know that I loved you with all my heart, and always will, there will never be a time that I won’t think about you or miss you……

Your son Michael

Tony, Mike, Rosanne and family...
I'm truly sorry for the loss of your mother. Over all the years she was always kind to me, and one of the best cooks I'll ever know.
Please find comfort in knowing she'll be in a better place.
A lifetime seems very short, and we all share in this, it can vary per individual as we know.
I believe more ways than not, we all try to do our best.
Take care,
With love, Frank and Norine
